Privacy at nicovanzyl.com
This portfolio is designed to be browsed without creating an account or accepting marketing cookies. Scribe is an optional AI chat; this page explains the limited data involved when it and the rest of the site are used.
Information this site handles
The site does not include account registration, a contact form or advertising pixels. It uses Visitors for privacy-focused analytics in its default anonymous mode. Visitors receives the page URL, referrer, IP address, browser and operating-system information, engagement events and Core Web Vitals needed to report site usage and performance. Persistent-user mode and identify calls are not enabled. Custom events record meaningful interactions such as navigation, theme choices, centered work cards, Scribe request outcomes, timeline and Black Index controls, Slop Slayer and game actions, copy length, and clicked link labels or destinations. Chat prompts and responses are never included in analytics. The script respects Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals.
Scribe sends the conversation entered in its card to a Netlify Function, which forwards it to OpenAI’s API to generate a response with GPT-5.6 Luna. The API key and private instruction layer remain on the server. That layer draws on current portfolio facts, historical public portfolio copy, Nico’s public X posts and personal details he chose to provide. The portfolio requests that OpenAI not store the generated response and does not save transcripts in a database, analytics service, localStorage or cookie. OpenAI and Netlify still process the request information needed to provide and protect their services; visitors should not enter credentials, confidential customer information or sensitive personal data.
Analytics data is processed by Visitors on Nico’s behalf and may be retained while the account is active; performance metrics are retained for one year. The site’s hosting provider, Netlify, may separately process standard request information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as an IP address, request path, user agent, timestamp and diagnostic or security data. The homepage also requests current Johannesburg weather from Open-Meteo. That provider receives the network information ordinarily sent with an HTTP request.

Browser storage and interactive features
Scribe keeps the current conversation only in the page’s working memory so earlier turns remain visible and can provide context. Reloading or leaving the page clears that browser-side conversation. The optional browser game separately stores save data locally using IndexedDB and a small localStorage pointer so a saved game can be resumed. Clearing site data in the browser removes it. Development-only interface tools may use sessionStorage when the site is run locally; those controls are not part of the public production experience.
Normal browser caching may retain site files such as images, scripts, styles and fonts to improve repeat visits. The portfolio does not use those cached files to build an advertising profile.
