Hi Metabase team.

I’m Nico, a design engineer based in South Africa. I’ve been building interfaces, design systems and products for the last 15+ years.

I started out as a front-end developer and quickly realised I love product design as well as system design and subsequently started drifting more into the design engineer role we know today by designing and building things in code.

Work history

I’ve worked for remote companies for the majority of my career, both as a freelancer and employee. I’ve built design systems from the ground up and taken products from 0 → 1 for companies like Simvida, Imagemakers and Stream.

Currently, I’m Altostrat’s founding designer, where I’m shaping how people and agents work together. I’m responsible for the design and development of the client-facing apps (Electron/desktop, iOS/Android), the marketing site as well as the brand. I’ve also co-founded Owners Circle.

I’m looking for a genuine challenge, somewhere I feel challenged each and every day and I know my contributions bring value to the users. I want to work at an organization that values ownership, high agency and talent, and prioritises quality. I want to learn and teach amongst a team of talented peers... Basically I feel like your values align with a bunch of mine!
